Key Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with experience interpreting in academic settings
  • Previous experience working with students with hearing impairments, especially those using cochlear implants, hearing aids, or assistive listening devices
  • Ability to facilitate communication in a classroom environment, maintaining professionalism and confidentiality
  • Flexibility to work collaboratively and fill in as a substitute on occasion
  • Current licensure or certification required for sign language interpretation within educational settings

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide ASL interpretation during instructional periods for a behavioral classroom, excluding non-instructional times such as lunch and arrival/dismissal
  • Foster an inclusive environment by bridging communication between the student, educators, and peers
  • Collaboratively share student support responsibilities with another language facilitator (Monday–Thursday coverage)
  • Accurately relay educational content, classroom discussions, and peer interactions
  • Be adaptable to student needs and adjust communication methods as necessary
