The student benefits from assistive hearing technology and is acclimating to the school following a transition from a residential program.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with experience interpreting in academic settings
- Previous experience working with students with hearing impairments, especially those using cochlear implants, hearing aids, or assistive listening devices
- Ability to facilitate communication in a classroom environment, maintaining professionalism and confidentiality
- Flexibility to work collaboratively and fill in as a substitute on occasion
- Current licensure or certification required for sign language interpretation within educational settings
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide ASL interpretation during instructional periods for a behavioral classroom, excluding non-instructional times such as lunch and arrival/dismissal
- Foster an inclusive environment by bridging communication between the student, educators, and peers
- Collaboratively share student support responsibilities with another language facilitator (Monday–Thursday coverage)
- Accurately relay educational content, classroom discussions, and peer interactions
- Be adaptable to student needs and adjust communication methods as necessary
