Teacher's Aide - Metairie, Louisiana
Make a real difference in the school setting as a contract paraprofessional working closely with students in specialized educational environments. This full-time position runs through the standard academic calendar, offering an opportunity to assist learners who communicate in unique ways and may display challenging behaviors. You'll play a crucial part in supporting classes designed for a lower teacher-to-pupil ratio, helping students reach their full potential.
Desired Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree, OR ParaPro assessment score of 450 or higher, OR 48 semester college credits (must meet one of these criteria)
- Direct classroom experience working with children
- Knowledge of IEPs and comfort supporting students with Autism or related disabilities
- Preferred but not required: CPI training, de-escalation training, experience with significant behaviors, and CPR certification
- Ability to pass district-required drug testing, fingerprinting, and background screening
Key Responsibilities:
- Support classroom instruction under the guidance of a lead teacher, reinforcing lesson content and providing individualized attention as needed
- Assist students in developing communication and social skills, implementing behavior-support strategies when necessary
- Read and interpret IEPs to deliver tailored support in accordance with each child’s needs
- Contribute to a positive, structured, and safe learning environment, de-escalating situations and responding promptly to challenging behaviors
- Maintain accurate records and follow all school and district policies
