Classroom Assistant | Kenner, Louisiana

Make a meaningful impact in the classroom by supporting students with complex communication needs and challenging behaviors. This full-time contract opportunity offers you the chance to work in lower teacher-to-pupil ratio classes, assisting learners with Autism and related disabilities. The assignment will follow the school calendar with a Monday-Friday schedule (35 hours per week), and the duration runs from ASAP through May 27, 2027.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

• Associates Degree, OR ParaPro assessment score of 450 or higher, OR at least 48 semester credit hours (district requirement)
• Prior classroom experience required
• Ability to read and interpret IEPs
• Comfortable working with students exhibiting aggressive or challenging behaviors
• Experience with students with Autism or related disabilities
• Strong understanding of de-escalation techniques (CPI training, de-escalation certification, and significant behavior management experience preferred, not required)
• Current CPR Certification preferred
• Must pass a drug test, fingerprinting process, and background check, as per district credentialing standards

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist instructional staff in day-to-day classroom activities
• Support students in both small-group and one-on-one settings within lower teacher-to-pupil ratio classes
• Help implement behavior support plans and IEP goals
• Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students
• Accurately document behavior incidents and progress as directed by teaching staff and school administration
