Instructional Assistant - Gretna, Louisiana
Make a lasting impact by supporting students in lower teacher-to-student ratio classrooms within a school community near the New Orleans area. This contract position is full-time, Monday through Friday, with assignments determined according to the district's needs for the academic year through late May.
You'll work closely with students who communicate in a variety of ways and who may present challenging behaviors, including those associated with Autism and related disabilities. Experience with reading IEPs and applying successful behavior management strategies is essential in supporting these learners.
Key Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree, OR a ParaPro assessment score of at least 450, OR a minimum of 48 semester credit hours (required by district)
- Demonstrated classroom experience; strong preference given to candidates with significant behavior support experience
- Preferred, but not required: CPI training, de-escalation training, and CPR certification
- Familiarity with students with Autism and understanding of IEP implementation
- Able to pass a drug test and fingerprint screening, as well as agency-specific background check
Responsibilities:
- Foster a supportive, inclusive classroom environment for students with complex communication needs and behaviors
- Assist instructional staff in academic and behavioral interventions
- Implement de-escalation techniques and positive behavior supports as needed
- Collaborate with educators and related service providers to ensure student progress and safety
- Maintain clear and accurate documentation related to student IEPs and behavioral plans
