Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist - Bealeton, Virginia

Qualifications and Experience:
• Valid certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing or a related specialist credential
• In-depth knowledge of instructional strategies for learners with hearing differences
• Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students who are deaf/hard of hearing
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with educators, families, and related service providers
• Familiarity with assistive listening devices, communication modalities (ASL, total communication), and classroom accommodations
• Flexibility, resourcefulness, and cultural sensitivity
Primary Responsibilities:
• Deliver direct and consultative services to students with hearing differences in accordance with IEP goals
• Support classroom teachers by recommending and modeling instructional modifications and accommodations
• Assess students’ needs and monitor progress, providing feedback and reports as required
• Facilitate effective communication among school staff, families, and outside agencies
• Advocate for students’ access to the curriculum, ensuring equitable opportunities and a positive learning environment
• Provide training and consultation to staff regarding best practices and use of assistive technology
• Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings and IEP development
