School Counselor in San Mateo, CA

Bring your expertise as a bilingual Spanish-speaking counselor to a transformative role providing Educationally Related Mental Health Services (ERMHS) within schools in the San Mateo and San Francisco Bay Area. In this contract position, you’ll collaboratively support students across multiple sites, ensuring their mental health and emotional well-being while making a positive difference in diverse communities.

What You’ll Bring:

• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English (required)
• ACTIVE Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) registration number (current status must be verifiable)
• Current California licensure as LPCC, LMFT, or LCSW OR Associate registration (AMFT, APCC, or ASW) with eligibility to accrue supervised hours toward full licensure
• Master’s or Doctoral degree in a counseling, marriage and family therapy, clinical social work, or closely-related field
• 3,000 hours of supervised clinical experience (either currently completed or in progress under supervision as an Associate)
• Successful completion (or preparation to complete) the California Law & Ethics Exam and corresponding licensing exam
• Experience working with school-aged children in educational, counseling, or mental health settings is highly valued
• Ability to clear a Live Scan fingerprint background check

Role Responsibilities:

• Deliver direct mental health intervention, counseling, and case management to students in EC-Transition populations districtwide
• Travel between up to three school sites weekly (on-site only)
• Maintain up-to-date, confidential clinical records according to ERMHS and school district standards
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, families, and outside providers
• Uphold compliance with BBS and district policies, participating in supervision if pursuing full licensure
