Special Education Teacher Jobs
As a special education teacher, you put your students first. You tirelessly advocate for them and ensure that you tailor culturally appropriate instructional and behavioral goals for them. At Bilingual Therapies, we feel the same way about our applicants.
We will support you as you navigate the market for that perfect job, but more than that, we can provide a foundation to stand on and grow professionally.
Special Education Teacher Responsibilities
Every day brings different scenarios in the world of special education. The core responsibilities of a special education teacher, though, are consistent. What does a special education teacher do? They design and implement IEPs, advocate for their students, administer assessments, and deliver standards-based instruction. They also confer with general education teachers, administrators, specialists, families, and counselors. Bilingual special education teachers need to balance all of this with an emphasis on language and communication. Here at Bilingual Therapies, we understand the intricacies of special education, for both bilingual and monolingual teachers. We are the compassionate support system on which you can rely.
Special Education Teacher Requirements
Special education teachers must meet several requirements before they can be hired. You need to obtain a bachelor’s degree, preferably in the field of education or special education. You need to achieve certification in special education, including student teaching, coursework, and a standardized exam. You can continue to grow professionally through obtaining authorizations, such as for autism, to teach more specialized populations. Many special education teachers get a master’s degree or doctorate. Requirements vary slightly by state, so be sure to check your state’s requirements.
Special Education Teacher Salary and Job Outlook
Special education teacher salaries fall into a wide range, depending on which part of the country you live in and your experience level. Some districts pay much higher salaries than others nearby, so be sure to research your local schools. The job growth outlook for special education is estimated at 3% from 2018 – 2028. This rate is on par with many other industries.
