School Psychologist Jobs
As a school psychologist, you are personable, supportive and a constant advocate for students. You provide opportunities and comfort to students with psychological challenges considering their cultural background. At Bilingual Therapies, we offer the same support to you.
Working together with the common goal of elevating students, we can help place you in a position to deliver vital services to those children in your care.
School Psychologist Job Responsibilities
School psychologists have a lot on their plates, with many responsibilities. Working with children of all ages, these specialists assist children with various challenges, from early childhood through high school. Children with behavior issues, academic struggles, developmental challenges and social struggles all benefit from your services. School psychologist job satisfaction is enhanced when families, educators and other school-based professionals work in tandem with you to optimize student outcomes. Bilingual school psychologists have additional challenges, as students’ language and communication challenges may intertwine with other deficits. These specialists design plans to help ensure success. Whether you are a monolingual or bilingual school psychologist, we provide extensive support to help you achieve your goals.
School Psychologist Requirements
Many prospective school psychologists major in education, psychology, or child development in their undergraduate studies. After obtaining their bachelor’s, school psychologists need a master’s degree in school psychology, at a minimum, to provide services in an educational setting. Some jobs require a doctorate as a prerequisite to hiring. While hiring criteria varies by state, all states require passing a standardized licensing exam. There is also an option to further develop and grow by obtaining a voluntary certification, the Nationally Certified School Psychologist credential. This rigorous program includes passing the national exam and completing 60 training hours and over 1,200 hours of hands-on practice.
School Psychologist Salary and Job Outlook
School psychologist salaries fall in the same range, whether you pursue clinical, counseling, or school psychology in an academic setting. The rate varies by state, years of experience, and level of education and credentials. The outlook for school psychologists is healthy: the projected job growth rate from 2018 – 2028 is 14%, much higher than many other professions. As early identification of learning, social and behavioral challenges in students increases, the demand for school psychologists rises, too.
