School-Based Physical Therapy Responsibilities

As a vital role on the IEP team, school-based physical therapists help students succeed. They develop, implement, and document treatment plans and strategies to help students with physical limitations. Through collaborative work with teachers, OTs, speech therapists, and other specialists, bilingual school-based physical therapists set students up for positive outcomes. Their day-to-day experiences vary continuously, as they work with students of all ages, with a myriad of backgrounds and diverse challenges. Here at Bilingual Therapies, we equip both monolingual and bilingual school PTs with the support and inspiration they need to succeed.

School-Based Physical Therapy Requirements

School-based physical therapy differs from medical PT, and there is a slightly different focus. At schools, the goal is to maximize educational outcomes for students who receive services. School-based PTs will need to be licensed in the state where they practice. A master’s degree in physical therapy was sufficient in the recent past, but today you need to obtain a DPT (Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy). The DPT involves coursework, supervised practice, and culminates in the National Physical Therapy Examination.

School-Based Physical Therapy Salary and Job Outlook

Salaries for school-based physical therapists vary widely. Much of the variance depends on which state you are in, how much experience you have, and the setting of your practice. No matter where in the country you are, physical therapy is in demand. Between 2018 – 2028, the BLS predicts a growth rate of 22% for PT in general, which is well above the national average.

Students who receive physical therapy services need support, compassion, and teamwork. The same can be said for the specialists providing those services. Here at Bilingual Therapies, we supply the safety net to give you the confidence to reach new heights. We do more than match you with a high-quality job opportunity: we offer our vibrant hearts and inspirational expertise to ensure your success. Join us today and become part of the Bilingual Therapies family.
