Teacher Job Responsibilities

While the exact responsibilities ofa teacher vary according to the age and abilities of students, there is a strong focus on developing various skills. On a day-to-day basis, teachers develop lesson plans and teach their classes based on those plans. Teachers can adapt these lesson plans to meet the individual needs of their students as well. In addition to tracking student progress and reinforcing classroom expectations, teachers will also work with teams of teachers, school administrators and parents to share insight on students and their needs.

Teacher Education Requirements

Teachers are required to hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in addition to obtaining appropriate licensing. While obtaining your degree, you’ll have the opportunity to practice classroom management and support teachers in the classroom by logging hours for your required internship. Once you’ve achieved these requirements, you will need to take the teacher certification test to officially become a certified teacher. This certification will correspond with the grade level and subject you want to teach. Passing scores may vary according to state.

Teacher Job Outlook

Teachers are essential to our communities, and we continue to see a demand for this occupation. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects an increase of this occupation at an average level, as compared to other occupations. These projections are certainly based upon location and will vary accordingly.
