Summer Opportunities for Professional Growth

June marks the end of yet another academic year. Summer is a time to relax, visit friends and relatives, see new places, and also a time to seek opportunities for continuation education and professional growth.

If you wish to travel to accumulate continuation education credits, I can recommend three conferences. Unfortunately, two of the conferences are held during conflicting times.

  1. Bilingual Therapies is offering its 6th summer annual symposium in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, between July 13 and July 15. Featured speakers include, Dr. Brian Goldstein, whose keynote address is titled: Speech Pathology: Research to Practice.   2. ASHA Schools Conference will be held in Phoenix, Arizona from July 14 to July 16. The title of the conference is Intervention: What works!! .   3. Leading Best Practice in Language and Literacy will take place in Portland, Maine with several presentations by experts in the areas of reading and language. If you do not intend to travel, but want to earn continuation education credits you can complete the questions at the end of any of the ASHA journals including the various Divisions’ newsletters. Other journals such as Topics in Language Disorders and Communication Disorders Quarterly offer continuation education credits. In addition, the ASHA catalog lists materials that relate to various topics, another avenue to gain continuation credits. You can order the catalog or view the products online. Examples:
