Special Education Teacher Opening near San Mateo, CA 

The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing specialized academic services directly to the students enrolled in the Special Education program, as well as collaborating with their parents and the IEP team regarding the implementation of the Individual Education Plan. The employee will deliver effective academic instruction in line with the districts approved academic curriculum, state standards and student IEPs. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops lesson plans and instructional material according to BDS academic curriculum requirements and procedures.
  • Prepares, plans and attends IEP meetings.
  • Conducts student assessments to determine progress towards educational goals.
  • Determines student’s academic and behavioral goals and objectives necessary for progress reports.
  • Produces progress reports on a quarterly basis.
  • Implements and maintains treatment/intervention plans.
  • Collaborates with school personnel and parents on educational/behavioral services plan.
  • Participates in transporting students during community based instruction.
  • Reviews reports, interprets test/assessment data.
  • Collaborates with school and district medical personnel on medical care protocols if necessary.
  • Writes, reviews and approves Serious Incedent Reports (SIR).
  • Conducts performance evaluation reviews for all classroom staff.
  • Supervises data entry and reviews data collection to ensure consistency of the intervention strategies.
  • Works closely with the Behavior Consultant on writing and implementing Positive Behavior Support Plans.
  • Promotes a positive and welcoming atmosphere to encourage collaboration.
  • Maintains a safe psychological and physical classroom environment.
  • Conducts necessary staff meetings to ensure classroom activities are in line with BDS policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college/university is required.
  • One (1) plus years of teaching experience in special education field.
  • Must possess moderate-severe credentials.
