The University has offered a program leading to a Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology since 1947. For students interested in licensure as a public school speech-language pathologist, the program is accredited by the Department of Public Instruction of the State of Wisconsin (DPI-WI). Located in a large metropolitan area, Marquette is ideally positioned to provide its speech-language pathology students with a large and diverse choice of clinical sites (e.g., hospitals, clinics, nursing homes) for practicum experiences. Number of instructional staff holding CCC is eleven in speech-language pathology, one in audiology. Resources include the following laboratories: birth to three, preschool language, child language, augmentative/assistive communication, voice physiology, orofacial, neurolinguistics, computer and audiology. A bilingual English-Spanish Certificate (BESC) is offered through the masters' degree program or as continuing education for practicing SLPs. Candidates for the BESC must be accepted to the SLP master's program or posses a master's degree and ASHA certification as a SLP if pursuing the BESC as continuing education. Candidates also must complete an application to the BESC program and meet language proficiency requirements established by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures.
